Bio
This will be my mini-biography...

Let me think about what I want you to know about me. I am a Christian, and God is a very important part of my life. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. I graduated with an English degree with a concentration in Language Arts and with a minor in Creative writing with a concentration in poetry.

Speaking of school. I am a high school English teacher in Duplin County (which is about an hour from Wilmington and about an hour and a half from Raleigh).

I love music. I prioritize in listening to rock. Some of my favorite bands are Metallica(which is my favorite), the 69 Eyes, Filter, Alice in Chains, Burn Season, Revalation Theory, Hinder, Sevendust, Theory of a Deadman, Nickelback, Coheed and Cambia, Corrosion of Conformity, Hurt, Korn, White Zombie...wow my list could go on forever, but I will spare you.

I also really love the stuff that I missed. Either I was too young or just not listening. Stuff like the Velvet Underground.

I am also really into singers/bands like Johnny Cash, Ben Harper, and B.B. King. I love the blues and love the blues sounds. I favor and lean towards listening to blues artists with great voices or great abilities in the guitar, dobro, or slide guitar.

I love music with soul and that is mostly because my father brought me up listening to Motown (if you don't know what Motown is, you need to learn) and beach music. I love Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Marvin Gaye, Four Tops, Dr. CC (Clarence Carter), the Funk Brothers(who have played on more number records than Elvis, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones combined), plus many more.
My mother brought me up on the church side of music (Southern Gospel) because that was what she sang and loved listening to. I love the Gaithers and alot of Southern Gospel. I can't really get into much "gospel" or Christian music that they have now-a-days. But there occasional ones that I do like. Day of Fire (whose lead singer was the lead singer for Full Devil Jacket {quite the change huh}), Jeremy Camp, Red, Blindside, David Crowder Band, Disciple, Pillar and a couple more are my favorite Christian Rock bands. My mom also had me listening early on to bands/singers like the Rod Stewart, the Righteous Brothers and more importantly Elvis(I like Elvis alot myself).

I have to be honest in the fact that I am only tolerant of rap songs. I will admit that I like an occasional beat or song that I really like.....but that is few and far between when it comes to rap. I do like old DMX, and he's really the only one who I can think that I would like to listen to.

I also like country music, and bluegrass (I am a big fan of Nickel Creek and the Drive-by Truckers...but I love the old bluegrass stuff because of my grandpa). Everytime I was with him we were either listening to country, bluegrass or big band...so I guess alot of my eclectic sounds are from him also. I just will let you ask if you have any questions if you have any other questions about my music likings. I have said too much.

OTHER THINGS:
--------------------
I love movies. I usually watch a movie or two a week. Some of my favorite movies (and yes I said some and they are not in any particular order) Tombstone, The Crow trilogy, Boondock Saints, Serenity, Gone in 60 seconds, the X-men trilogy, The Fast and Furious trilogy, Masters of the Universe, Crossroads (not the Britney Spears one), Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, Chronicles of Narnia, and many others.
-------------------
I love tv also. I only watch a couple of shows "when they actually come on". Most of what I watch are tv series on dvd. I watch WWE Raw wrestling and House at their regularly scheduled time. I love Space Ghost Coast to Coast, the Brak Show, Firefly (on dvd since someone had to go and cancel one of the greatest shows ever), Seinfield, Everybody loves Raymond, Family Guy, the Simpsons, old He-man and the Masters of the Universe cartoon, Looney Tunes, Cheers....and mostly all of the "cooking" or "car" shows on tv(except the NASCAR shows). I love me some Paula Deen, Rachel Ray, Emeril.......or any of those cooks on tv (especially Alton Brown). I like those nifty car shows that show cars/trucks/suvs getting worked on or "pimped" out.
-------------------
I am very much a "thing person". I like to have things because having material possessions sometimes makes me feel important. But in reality it only fills a void that we have in ourselves. Anyway. I do and will talk about things in this journal alot, but I am working on my vanity problems and am trying to rectify the fact that I rely on material possessions. I had to have an iPod, and a big surround sound system, and all that crap. You know how it is.

I have a 1993 Mustang with alot of exterior and engine modifications that make it look and sound like a Cobra Mustang. It is windveil blue. Cars are definitely a money pit, but I think they are worth it. My car is my baby, haha.

I also have a 1998 F-150. I have only had my truck for a year and some change now, but I have done some alterations to it. Its got a K & N air filter on it, some 40 series FlowMasters with 3 inch exhaust pipes, a throttle body spacer, and a bully guard in the front. Just give me time....oh yes, just give me time.

I love cars. I love the culture and the persona that people have. Cars break divides that are usually never torn down. At a drag race or a car show you have people of all personalities and backgrounds. Black, white, latino, poor, rich, married, single, young, and old all come together for one common love.....their vehicles. Its a beautiful thing to walk around and see. I love watching my car shows on tv (I just wish I had cable at my house :{)

Me:
Well I am not a person to hate anyone, unless you give me a reason to dislike you. I am acceptable of all types of people, and races. I don't care who you are, or what you look like, as long as I like you, thats all that matters. As long as you don't disrespect me or yourself, we'll be fine together. If you carry yourself in a manner that will lift yourself up instead of tearing it down.....then I'll like you.
More about ME.....
I hate being asked what I am. I used to get asked it alot more than I do now.
I dont' fit into any specific stereotypes or catergory. I'm not a prep(even though I wear nice clothes). I'm not a goth (even though I love tattoos and heavy metal music). I'm not a dork or a nerd (even though I love being on the computer, playing video games and reading books). I'm not just a car guy (even though I am just as happy working on my car or getting things done to it....or a drag race....or a car show). I'm not just a redneck (even though I drive a big 4x4 truck and have a big antenna on it, I go hunting...I like to fish....I wear a camoflauge hat sometime too....SUE ME.) I'm not just a muscle head (even though I love just working out and pushing my muscles to the limit. I love the brotherhood of people in the gym. I love getting stronger and I am extremely proud of my muscles). I'm not just a poet (even though I love reading and writing poetry and prose. I love to make beautiful expressions using words). Even though I am I'm not just some country boy/cowboy (more than a redneck....less than a 'red' neck. I love riding my tractor or bushhawging a field. I love the smell of freshly plowed fields, and I love to sit in my tree stand and look out at the vastness of land around).

I'm a combonation of all of those things (and many more if I sat and thought about it long enough.
One minute I can be listening to Heavy Metal while driving my Mustang extremely fast, and come home and read poet or... talk to God and study His Word.

"I am who I am." Like it or leave.

I hope you enjoy my Livejournal. This livejournal is a place where I come and vent my feelings, and tell you or just myself about the happenings in my life. I'm not one of those who posts everything about every day (Jacob, haha), I just like to come up here and talk. If you don't like what I say, continue on your merry way. Don't leave mean remarks, thats just childish.

I do hope through my rantings and informational sessions that you can come to know who I am and some things about some of the 9 million things that I know a little about a little better.

And maybe just maybe...you can come to know Christ a little more through the times I talk about Him.

Well thanks for stopping by, and look me up on myspace. I am addicted to it and I love the beauty that is myspace. www.myspace.com/users/bigdaddychrisbrown
